Macro building

Postby illini319 » Mon May 23, 2011 3:00 am

Perhaps I just have not figured it out yet... But is there somewhere a clear guide on building macros because I have not figured out if TabulaRasa is able to execute a series of commands from LEARNED IR codes. That is, is there a way to have the device learn an IR command and have a listing of those learned commands so that it can be used for building macros? (Because the database has some but not all the buttons that I am used to using for my Sony Bravia TV). For example, I have not found the '.' key which would be used to change the TV channel to '4.1' which is the HD station for broadcast NBC in my area.

Yes, tabula rasa supports macros.

When you are in edit mode and double tap a button to add a function, when you are done the little number decoration on the button changes from 0 to 1. This indicates that this button contains 1 function. To create a macro you simply repeat and double-tap to add a new function. Now the decoration will say 2.
And so on indefinitely. You can add/combine IR functions with PC functions and you can also add delays.

The sequence you create the functions in is the sequence that will be used to send out the functions.

Remember to exit the edit mode to try it out. To clear the macro you select clear all functions for that button.

We have a few video help guides on this. When you go to the info screen by tapping the "i" in the lower right you will see a video reel in the upper right corner. Please tap that and browse the videos.

One of the macros you may want to repeat is channels for telling your TV to change channels. We have a special function menu item for that. There is also a video of how to use that.

Regarding the "." key, you are absolutely right. It is not in the wizard right now. We are working to remedy that.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply; I'll be sure to review the videos shortly. However, I wonder what you guys are doing with respect to learned IR commands, of which the '.' is an example. that is, that there may always be the one button/functionality which is not found in a wizard which therefore needs to be learned - and that the most flexible way to resolve this is the ability to detach a learned IR command and then use it as a function for another button, and within macros.

So there is definitely the ability to learn codes.
Also once you have created a button you can copy and paste it.
If you are asking whether when you learn an IR code there is a way to save it to local library, name it, and then recall it again later then the answer is no.
That is a good suggestion though. The challenge is always how to find the balance between additional features and a simple User Interface.

As users (us) learn how to do stuff we'll always want more, that's progress.
Maybe 2 buttons one marked BASIC and the other ADVANCED or EXPERT.
Or just an advanced option off the default.

We have addressed this much better in our latest version of Tabula Rasa in which you can now
1. Add many functions to any button, i.e. build the macro
2. Rearrange the macro
3. Selectively delete any function inside the macro
4. Rename buttons in the macro (this is particular important if you have learned an IR code and want to give it a name).

More improvements to come...

Here is a preview:
1. Repeat macros
2. Animation "macro progress"
3. Ability to save functions so you can create your own local library of IR function
4. Button Graphics editor

The fun never stops.
