Good start to the app

This forum is for discussing the iWavit TVaid app. This app provides a 2-in-1 app for both controlling your TV and Settop box AND looking at your local TV listing. By combining both, you are able to select a show to view and automatically have the TV change to the appropriate channel.

Good start to the app

Here is my review of the app.
The wizards at setup makes perfect sense and should appeal to less advanced users. However, by the same token, it gets a bit hairy when their TV is not listed in the remote list (and that it is not obvious that it can learn IR commands). If the user can prompt the wizard that their TV is not listed, then the wizard can continue down an IR learning path.

The zip code app can work but at least in my neighborhood, NYC, it was not able to find TIme Warner cable service for my zip code... Yet putting in a neighboring zip code was able to locate TW cable. Maybe allowing the listing to include neighboring zip codes is the simple solution.

Finally, I can't wait to see the HD version of this app for the iPad! Or even better, integration of this app with, in my opinion your best app, Tabula Rasa. There, however, it can get tricky with which TV is assigned to the IR channels and subsequently the TVaid. Having IR channel setups for each remote could in principle resolve this potential issue.

Hope that helps! And I will add more as I use the app more.

Thanks for the feedback! The iPad version is on its way. It is probably 2 week out. We will try to make that a single page app. You will get a zoomable remote on the right and a table on the left. It will be very nice and simple.

Yes, as you surmised, we would consider eventually integrating with the Tabula Rasa app, but we are a bit afraid that it may just become way too much. One suggestion we have heard, would be to integrate a TV Guide "button", which you could drag and drop anywhere, but instead of being a button it would be the Table of TV channels. A bit like a Widget.

But we have a bunch of other updates planned for Tabula Rasa (including many of your suggestions), which will take precedence.

Yes. And even brighter if you live in sunny Califonia ;)

We had to start somewhere, and the US was the logical start.

We will look at adding other countries as well, eventually. It is a monumental task. For the iWavit TV Aid, we had to find the right companies to license the IR codes from for the US, and then to team up with a company that provided the TV listings.

There are lots of ways to improve this app, and we would love to hear all the suggestions that our users have.

And if anyone knows where we can get the similar sets of IR codes or TV listings for their country, then please let us know.

Oh, and by the way, the HD version for the iPad should be coming out very soon. (<10 days)

Here is a little preview. We kept it simple. When using it you stay on a single page. On the left you can scroll through your TV Listing, on the right your can pinch-zoom your IR remote and control your TV directly. Click on a TV show on the left, and your TV (or set top box, or PC) will automatically change to the right channel.

Here is a preliminary screen-shot.
